Notes on 30 09/16/2011
As my 30th year comes to a close- I remember 2 things that I love #1 A dear friend of mine telling me not to worry about turning 30, if I hadn't done anything that I wanted to do- than I should be pretty upset that I was turning 30. I have been to cities I always dreamed of, married the man of my dreams (literally, and old friends of mine know that), and have done some other things I'm proud of. So for that bit of advice, I'm grateful. It probably made the turn into the thirties a bit easier. #2 I remember the card that was given to me by my husband a year ago- It's so beautiful I have to quote it, so If I loose the card one day, I will remember. "Let us be grateful to people who make us happy They are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." Proust Here's to one more great year, to friends, family, and moving forward remembering to keep our dreams and passions in mind. All my love, and thanks JC Add Comment 2011...new year, reloaded..... 01/06/2011
![]() I love Design Sponge, it is always a dose of happy when I need some order, and to see peoples homes that take a little time out of their life to make sure their living space is indicative of their life. This I need to work on...so is 2011. I feel a sense of a lighter feeling, a sense that maybe we have been through a little rain, and maybe, just maybe we might get a rainbow. It might be one of those faint rainbows in the distance, but none the less, a slight rainbow in the shadow of a waterfall is fairly breathtaking. My excitement for this year, isn't so much about resolutions, as I always make many, I never start them until February...just my rebellious streak I guess. It is more about some sort of new start. We are all in a different place than we were 3 or 4 years ago...maybe not "better" but different. This year, lets press on with a moment of reverence for what we have been through in the past years, knowing we can get through it, taking that strength to be new people, better people, more compassionate people, more eloquent, kind, soft, strong, efficient people...maybe this is a result of being in Japan, but I think resolve has to be in each of us. The new year always inspires a clean slate, and a sense that anything is possible for me. This week, I'm going to be proud of myself for the three times I got up a good sweat, the few things I was able to check off my list this week, and making sure I'm still progressing Here are a few photos of our recent belated honeymoon/vacation. Japan is so amazing, my little photos do little to capture the awe inspiring landscape. The juxtaposition between the ancient and the modern is pretty crazy! If I could just have one more bowl of noodles... Hawaii is really breathtaking, Kauai especially is so green, lush and peaceful, I could easily roll out of bed in the morning for a beach stroll. What a place...really spectacular! What a lucky girl I am! Power tools and Smores 11/03/2010
And were off! The Holiday ISH season is upon us allegedly with the passing of Halloween. Every year, we have a sort of open house, have dinner, and carve pumpkins. It's always fun, drinks are had, and we feel like kids. This year two friends showed up on the door step hungry and with power tools. It was the highlight of the evening, watching them mess around with the drills and whatever else they had. Sadly there are no photos of the finished pumpkins, which were great. I couldn't be more excited for Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday...food, and Hello Lover.... 10/20/2010
It is no secret that I love to cook, whenever it's my birthday or just a lazy Sunday I would much prefer to cook for my friends and hang out at the house than most anything else (MOST). I have been without a working oven for over a month due to both my husband and I refusing to waste a Sunday shopping around for a new stove. Well VOILA!! Arriving today, a very hip, updated double oven, that will soon become the home for some Pork belly, and some fall stews. (I bought some pork belly the other day at the market in anticipation for this glorious day.) I don't have any other food in the house, due to my lack of oven so I just threw in a trader joes frozen spinach lasagna! Very unlike me, but hey it will do. I'm super thrilled for fall dishes, Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday, other than Bastille Day) and a warm oven especially on days like today when its raining cats and dogs!!! What are you cooking this month?? xo J Favorite Color - EVER 10/11/2010
![]() I can only hope that my friend who was actually at the McQueen show in Paris last week, has taken this dress, smuggled it back into the US and will let me take this dress to my house. Not only would I wear it for casual dinner parties, but I would take it to Lowes and have paint matching done to it, I would live in a sea of French Grey. Anyway happy Monday... xo Birthday Week 09/29/2010
Last week was my 30th Birthday. I surprisingly had such a wonderful time with my younger sister and her boyfriend who came out for a visit, and to celebrate! It was such a whirlwind week, I managed to get up to Portland for a food and drink filled weekend, had a cocktail party at the bar, got up on stage with Pan De Sal ( a fab band that was kind enough to embarrass me on my b-day), and managed a dinner party for 12 at our house complete with a yucky burn I aquired on the grill, ouch! My sister and I got to whip up some dinner for our friends, her boyfriend suc Needless to say, it was a wonderful birthday, and I couldn't be more thrilled to head into my 30's with wonderful memories, friends, and possibly a scar to remind me of the weekend! Veggies 09/03/2010
Pre cut veggies are not something that are usually in my grocery store repertoire, they are expensive, don't last long, and I feel as though if I'm too lazy to chop up some veggies, I don't deserve to eat them. I did make an exception yesterday, when I was at the large wear-house store, and it was so inexpensive for like 3 pounds of broccoli! Since my husband would rather have veggies and ranch more than any other snack on this planet, trying to keep fresh veggies is a chore. I'm so thrilled at my new buy, I divided the pounds up into smaller bags, I will keep them in the fridge, then freeze in a few days. I will never buy frozen broccoli ever again! This may seem elementary, but I'm thrilled about it! Fall can't come fast enough 09/01/2010
There is always a week in late August or early September that gives a sense that fall is just around the corner. We had that yesterday, and now it's back up to 100 degrees!! I'm SO looking forward to sweaters, and hats, and scarves and making stews and soups for dinner. For now, I can look forward to my upcoming trip to Portland for my birthday, and think of how there will be time for wellies, and hats in just a few short days... Here is what I'm REALLY going for!! My dear friend Danielle Kelly and Noelle Stiles are performing "Blanket" at PICA (thank you for the photo). I couldn't be more proud or excited to see the piece, and attend the opening! |
